Hours vary according to semester and clinical schedule. In the fall semester, this instructor will either teach didactic courses or assist in the clinical/skills lab one day per week. In the spring and summer semesters, this instructor will be assigned to supervise a clinical group one day per week in the cute care setting in either LaGrange or Brenham. Clinical hours start at 6:00 am.

Position Summary Information

Objective

The instructor is a part-time nursing faculty member who has responsibility to ensure course objectives are met through assigned lecture content and/or clinical/simulation lab experiences. The instructor is in a staff position involving collaboration with other faculty within the same course/level.

Essential Duties

The instructor in either the classroom, clinical site, or simulation lab is responsible for:
1. Utilization of established syllabi in the course.
2. Preparation of lecture outlines and notes based on course objectives and topical outlines in advance and provides copies of the same to the course coordinator (on as needed basis).
3. Promotion of high standards of excellence in assigned courses.
4. Demonstration of positive morale and team spirit. This will include support of the college and program missions, philosophies, and goals to students and community.
5. Participation in curriculum development, review and revision.
6. Presentations of course content in classroom setting and attending class sessions.
7. Serving as a clinical instructor.
8. Counseling and advising clinical students.
9. Completion of evaluations and grading of student tests and projects/assignments promptly and according to college and program policy.
10. Safely performing the duties of the LVN/RN, while supervising/instructing/assisting students in the clinical area.
11. Keeping informed and evaluating major trends in the specific areas of instruction methodology and technology.
12. Participation in program and college faculty meetings and activities.
13. Maintenance of professional competence through practice, continuing education, and professional activities.
14. Performance of other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. Actively employed in nursing for the past three years or have advanced preparation in nursing, nursing education, and/or nursing administration
2.Three years of varied nursing experience since graduation.
3. Be current on immunizations and have a TB skin test and flu vaccine annually.
4. Must be current in Healthcare Provider CPR

Preferred Experience and Training

1. AAS degree or higher in nursing
2. Knowledge of the vocational nursing curriculum and instructional methodology and techniques
3. Knowledge of the Texas administrative code part 11, chapter 214, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and the Guidelines for Instructional Programs in Workforce Education.
4. Teaching experience in nursing.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged periods; perform light-moderate lifting; listen and speak effectively; twist, bend, and reach to perform tasks; and move objects/occupied beds with enough strength to perform effective CPR.

Required Degree, License or Certifications

1. Current LVN or RN license in good standing with Texas Board of Nursing.
2. Current CPR certification.
