Position Summary Information


This is a daytime position only. The successful applicant will provide the expertise and knowledge to teach non-credit courses in Basic Carpentry. This includes the use of: building materials, fasteners, and adhesives; hand and power tools; construction drawings, specifications, and layout; floor systems; wall systems; ceiling and roof framing; building envelope systems; stairs layout

Essential Duties

Teach non-credit classes in Bryan, TX, within the hours of 8:00 am to 5:30 pm; continuously review curriculum and methods to improve the quality of instruction; use a variety of hands-on teaching methods to train adults; evaluate student progress and constantly communicate with students and Blinn administration; keep accurate student records and certification files; other duties as assigned

Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

At least 36 months work experience as a full-time carpenter; knowledge and experience in all phases of home construction; knowledge and experience with all tools required for home construction; ability to read blueprints and specifications to determine a work plan;

Preferred Experience and Training

At least five years work experience as a full-time carpenter; experience training carpenter helpers/apprentices; experience teaching adults in a classroom setting; a recognized certification in carpentry or construction trades

Physical Requirements

Ability to use a variety of hand tools and carpentry specific tools; able to climb ladders to heights of at least 15 feet; able to lift 40 pounds to a height of three feet; able to perform all normal and expected duties of a carpenter

Required Degree, License or Certifications

Minimum high school diploma or GED; prefer AA or higher degree
